2-Friday: Ah-weee-eee-a-whim-um-um-aweh!

14/7/12: SLR photos have been updated. Enjoy!

*sings in an abrasive voice*: In the Jungle, the mighty Jungle, a...

*oops* !! =)
I'm getting a bit too carried away at the moment - and I just can't wait (to be King? :P). No more: all will be explained later...

Back on track before I get lost in the wilderness of my thoughts: woke early as usual, rolled out of bed (albeit sleepily from a 1am bedtime last night), nommed a hearty buffet breakfast, then head off to work. Today I was to head over to the Main Clinic at Mount Alvernia again. The difference, today, was that I had overpacked (bringing a change of clothes and my camera gear too) because...

*sings irritatingly* Tonight, was the night, we headed to the Jungle!

The Night Safari attraction, actually. Close enough ;)

Cutting out the boring parts:
Worked in the morning session and got a chance to watch a laser LASIK procedure that the doctors specialise in.
Lunch: Thai-style curried chicken. Overall it wasn't TOO bad... and I'll leave it at that.
Afternoon session was stuck in the doldrums, with no doctors on duty. Eventually - Chief Optom Ryan gave us the afternoon off. Before we went, though, I took my camera out and we had a bit of fun - snapping away with Hui Shan and Maybelline (the Optoms). And also one with Amelia - who I had worked with at Parkway East.

The early dismissal allowed us to head home early, after a grocery run via Novena Square to restock on milk and other essentials (especially my Nestle coffee-in-a-can). Spent the rest of the time at home rewatching Men in Black I, before stopping at McDonalds for a bite of dinner prior to meeting up with the Others.

We all met up at the Orchard Rd bus stop at 6.10, just in time to catch the scheduled bus. Or so we thought... before waiting a good half-hour, thinking that we might have missed the bus. It turns out that there was heavy traffic along the previous stops, so the bus was delayed for that long. We all boarded the bus, only to keep watching more and more people get onboard during each subsequent stop. By the last CBD stop, even the aisle was quite packed. So the driver stopped at a holding bay near Little India, kicking off all the standing passengers. He wasn't completely slack - just that he can't take any standing passengers for the half-hour trip from Little India to the Safari sector, so he offloaded them onto a transfer bus that would follow us.

If you're thinking of going to the Night Safari, you can save a little bit here: we boarded the bus thinking of buying the ticket on board. It was a package ticket: covering a single journey bus fare (S$4.5) and Night Safari entry (RRP S$32) for S$35 combined.

40 minutes after boarding, we finally arrived in early twilight. Like typical tourists, we stood around with the many different exhibitions, standing around and taking photos.

The other three hadn't had dinner yet, so we sat around the eateries having a bite to eat. Eventually we entered, seeing part of the flamethrowers performance.

Inside, we misdirected ourselves ending up at the Creatures of the Night show. We decided to stay around, lining up for 8.30 show. Unfortunately, we were turned away 15 people from the door.
Why did we stay around? It's a popular show with 3 nightly performances at 7.30, 8.30 and 9.30 every night. An extra 10.30pm performance is scheduled specially for Friday and Saturday nights, which we came back for later on.

From the initial disappointment, we wallk up middle path marked on the map, seeing a number of exhibits along the way.

Brings a new meaning to "Zebra crossing"

Eventually the trail ended at the far tram stop, were we queue up to head back to main entrance; via (tram-only accessible) elephant enclosure. Even though we got on at the second tram stop, it still took half an hour to get back to the entrance - so allow yourself plenty of time if you want to walk and tram it!

Warning: no flash photography... it scares the animals. So I'm quite proud of my investment all those years back - in getting a f/1.4 lens. Though it cost me $1000 (and that's second-hand as well!!), it is excellent in low light situations - such as tonight =)

Arriving back at the start of the tram line, we saw it was 10pm, with people queuing for the last Creatures of the Night (10.30pm) show already. So we joined the queue and walked the half hour - it was work it, with the arena becoming quite filled.

Oh - and there was a snake kept in a locker right in front of us... to think we almost chose to sit in a row right above the snake!!!!!!

Fun parts of the night: a Japanese tourist was called onto the stage but he didn't speak English... so the trainers told him to make a macho man pose, wrapped a python around him, then all ran away in a mock emergency drill, leaving the poor guy there alone.

And some cute animal tricks, teaching us how to recycle =P

It was almost 11.30pm by the time we finished seeing the show and exploring the gift shops. Heading over to the bus stop, we thought we were too late to catch the express buses back into the city. And there were long lines for the local bus too...so we might just have to taxi it.

Fortunatly I spotted the last bus heading back to the CBD just in time: so we all got seats (and even slept) in air-conditioned comfort all the way back to Orchard Rd.

Well, that's it for this posting. Hope you've enjoyed the photos, and stay around for weekend posts :)
